The Top 10 Autumn/Winter 18 TRENDS

The Top 10 Autumn/Winter 2018 TRENDS

I am reluctant to write this blog post because it's topic indicates that it is the END OF  SUMMER!(I am crying inside). As you might have noticed from previous posts and this one, I am not the biggest fan of Winter, I have never been. I would much rather lie on a desolate beach with sun shining, tanning my skin then be stuck outdoors in the freezing cold with temperamental rain showers.
Anyway, as I was saying, as Summer comes to its end and Autumn starts to appear, lets discuss the key Autumn/ Winter 18 trends for this coming season.
What items are a necessity to your wardrobes? Lets #Throwback to the A/W18 Fashion Week shows from earlier this year to get a clearer picture of the key trends.
Here are the top key 10 trends you need to know:
1. ANIMAL PRINT: From Leopard, Tiger, Zebra, Snakeskin, stripes and spotted prints. This is THE KEY TREND this season, clash the prints together, wear the same print all over, anything goes as long as your wearing these bold animal prints. Seen at Dolce & Gabbana, Max Mara, Balenciaga, Victoria Beckham, Bottega Venetta and Tom Ford to name a few.

2. LAYER IT UP: This trend relates to our behavioural traits during the Winter season to when it is minus degrees outside, quite naturally we over-layer all items of clothing to keep warm. For this trend you can wear multiple jackets on top of each other, include scarfs, headwear, shirts with blazers or knitwear, just layer it on thick. Seen at Calvin Klein, Tods and Balenciaga.

3. STATEMENT HEADWEAR: From elaborate printed headscarves worn in various ways, to French berets, to Snow beanies, to last years popular trend of the 90s flat cap, statement headwear was seen all over the runway this season but over the top and dramatised. Seen at Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior.

4. COWBOY BOOTS: As boots are our favourite Winter footwear why not Western it up and make it a little more interesting with the cowboy boot, this is the must-have boot this Winter. From heeled cowboy boots at Paco Rabanne to luxurious snakeskin cowboy boots at Saint Laurent. I recommend to purchase cowboy boots, if you are thinking of buying a pair from Vintage stores they always have plenty and they look better more rustic than brand new.

5. CHECKS: The Check print is always a reoccurring Autumn/Winter favourite! From American inspired plaid seen at Calvin Klein to a more classic tartan check print seen at Erdem. Versace used a more 90s, "Clueless" inspired approach to the check print in their A/W collection.

Leather is always on trend during the Winter season and this year is no exception as it was the most dominant of all fabrics seen on the runway. Leather is a timeless material and oozes Rockstar vibes. Seen on the runway in winter trench coats, dresses, skirts and trousers not only in black but also in various colours. Seen at Hermes, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Loewe and Isabel Marant.

7. BIG EARRINGS: Another key accessory trend this season is statement jewellery especially earrings. From oversized chandelier earrings, frosted hoops and more, the bigger and more dramatic the better!

8. CAPES: This super chic, luxurious outerwear was seen at the London and Paris shows, from opera-ready jacquard at Erdem to leather at Alberta Ferretti, to Dior's shearling, to mixing it with another key trend this season Dolce & Gabbana used animal prints.

9. HOODS UP: There seems to be a commonality with key trends this season, with designers taking into consideration the consumer behaviour and our needs when it comes to Winter weather conditions and this trend seems to add to that list. Interlinking with the key trend of multi-layering, the hoods trend is another way to style your Winter wardrobe. Seen at Vivienne Westwood, Dior, Gucci, Alexander Wang, Versace and Calvin Klein.

10. HIGH-SHINE FABRICS: Shiny materials enlightened the runways this season from vinyl, latex, plastic and leather with metallic finishes giving us a shiny, glossy, futuristic vibe to trench coats, midi skirts and dresses. Seen at Chanel, Fendi and Simone Rocha.
