Trend Alert: Chunky Trainers

TREND ALERT: Chunky Trainers

This popular footwear trend was first seen in the S/S18 Fashion Week shows including Balenciaga, Ganni, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and more. Since then this 90s style sport-luxe, footwear trend, known as the Chunky Trainers or Dad Sneakers has transcended as the biggest footwear trend this A/W18 Season.
I would even say this may be one of the most popular trends this year. Why? Maybe because the Chunky Trainers gives us 90s nostalgia, meaning that it brings back all the sentimental childhood memories we have from the 90s era. I know it does for me especially when Nike brought back the Air Max 95 and 97 trainers, which I used to own in Gold/Khaki when I was seven years old and is now on my "Must Buy" shopping list.
The Chunky Trainers also just happens to go with anything in your wardrobe and it is the perfect item to dress down an outfit, as trainers are obviously super casual footwear. Casual but COMFY!
The Chunky Trainers are not the usual sport trainers but they are considered "Fashion Trainers". Do not try to wear them as sport performance trainers as they are NOT designed for them purposes.
The Chunky Trainers design features thicker foam platform soles, thicker laces, mesh materials and many of them are multicoloured giving off that 90s retro vibe. The Platform trainers were a huge trend in the 90s thanks to the Spice Girls and who isn't STILL their biggest fans today?
How To Wear This Trend:
You can wear Chunky Trainers with pretty much every outfit. This footwear trend had been commonly worn with Suits, Summer floral dresses, pleated midi-skirts, mini-skirts with oversized knitwear as well as wearing them with chunky thick sports socks.
